I have specialised in industrial and transport history, with books on railways, canals, shipbuilding, cotton and biographies of Telford and Trevithick. I have also written a large number of walking guides including national trail guides. As a broadcaster I have written and presented documentaries for BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5. I have also been historic adviser on six series for Discovery, including Industrial Revelations and Inventing History.

Recent works include appearances on Big,Bigger, Biggest and Coast. My latest book is Tracing your shipbuilding ancestors. My latest walking guide is The Cotswold Way.
